Tom Colomey is an accounting and finance professional with over 30 years of experience, including 20+ years as a CFO. While Commercial and Residential Construction and Real Estate are his main industries, he has also advised and led the financial departments of companies in: Services, Bio-Tech, Clinical Trial Start-ups, Buy and Sell Side M & A, Non-profit, and E-commerce.
Tom’s career has included both public and PE-backed companies, conducting due diligence, valuations, negotiations, and post-merger integrations. Since 2019, he has operated as a lead CFO Advisory Consultant for firms seeking venture capital, private equity, and institutional funding for commercial development projects, providing detailed and substantiated 10-year monthly pro forma models, cash flow, feasibility studies, business plans, pitch decks, and investor/financing presentations. He possesses a comprehensive knowledge of financial accounting practices, budgeting, forecasting, processes, and growth strategies, and has extensive experience with start-up service companies.
While in this CFO Advisory and Executive Level Consultant role, his experiences include:
- Acting CFO for a PE-backed firm building a Proton Therapy businesses that included full cycle modeling, financing, and construction.
- Interim CFO for a Mid-West Residential Builder that required a complete revamping of the company’s processes, procedures, resource usage, and a full ERP Implementation.
- Acting/Fractional CFO of a Rare Disease Clinical Trial firm, where he spent 2 years developing and managing their 10-year detailed proforma Financial Models, Investor presentations, pitch decks, and banking relationships. He led the efforts for a successful Series A start-up funding effort, and then a Series B infusion a year later.
- Acting/Fractional CFO for a $500M Private School Development Project in South Florida. As the only accounting and finance member of the Development Team, he was responsible for all aspects of a multi-purpose project, which included proforma modeling, pitch decks, many Investor presentations, and negotiations, and local entitlements.
- Acting CFO for a $120M National Contractor Sell Side transaction, where he spent many months leading a massive clean-up effort of their accounting and finance records, which led to a highly positive Quality of Earnings Report – which was the catalyst for the eventual sale.
Prior to his successes helping firms as a consultant, Tom was the CFO and VP of a natural stone manufacturing, fabrication, and installation company for 13 years. While performing this role, he negotiated and managed numerous International Letters of Credit Agreements for suppliers, developed and formulated a robust financial planning and analysis program.
His prior CFO positions included leading a PE-backed Government Contracting firm and Multi-entity Real Estate Development companies. In these roles he negotiated and closed on numerous land development financing arrangements, lines of credit, and bonding programs.
Tom also has non-profit executive experience, including as (i) the Treasurer of a large Youth Football and Cheerleading Program, (ii) the CFO and Board Member of a national level Pitbull rescue organization, and (iii) the Acting CFO of a North Carolina Non-profit Regional Airport.
Prior to his rise to the C-Suite, Tom’s experiences include positions as a Regional Finance Manager for two large publicly-traded firms, Amgen, Inc; and Fluor Corp; where he learned the inner workings of mergers and acquisitions.
Tom holds a BSBA in Accounting from Northeastern University, served his country in the US Coast Guard, and has served as a Board Advisor to many Non-profit organizations, including currently with Handsome Dan’s Pit Breed Rescue.
