While Geoff Gill has many skills, I can summarize many of them in a few simple words by saying that Geoff is an exceptionally capable Chief Financial Officer. He literally covered every aspect of an experienced CFO’s role and very capably navigated the whole gamut of CFO roles and responsibility for Innerscope: from early start-up challenges, to executing multiple rounds of private funding, to managing cash flow through rapid growth years, to helping to complete the sale of our company to the media and marketing research leader, Nielsen. While over a dozen people were on the buying company’s due diligence and business development team, Geoff handled the selling company’s part virtually solo. Undoubtedly an exceptionally capable CFO.

Geoff Gill

CFO Consultant

Geoff Gill is a seasoned finance and operations executive with a track record of accomplishments both as a consultant and an executive.  He is a serial entrepreneur with three exits who has also been successful in driving meaningful improvement in multi-billion-dollar international conglomerates.  Geoff has broad industry experience, with particularly deep knowledge of technology, manufacturing, digital health, professional services, medical devices, energy tech, and tech enabled services.

Geoff is highly strategic but is equally comfortable with detailed spreadsheet analyses. Depending on the needs of the company, Geoff moves seamlessly between managing rapid growth and conserving cash.  Having managed every function, he can provide both the most relevant financial analysis and broader business counsel to other executives.

Selected Accomplishments:

  • Capital Raises.  As CFO of two companies and CEO of a third, Geoff has closed eight rounds of financing with investors that included four venture firms, a large angel group, and numerous angel investors.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions. Geoff has been instrumental in the sale of three companies.  He has also been heavily involved in the post-acquisition integration of acquired companies, addressing operational issues arising from the acquisition.
  • Growth Management.  As Innerscope’s CFO, Geoff managed finances including cash during 10x growth over two years.  At an electronics manufacturer, Geoff was responsible for managing the supply chain system during 3x growth within a single year.
  • Cash Flow Management.  Having been responsible for cash management in early-stage startups, Geoff knows how to make cash stretch beyond reasonable expectations.  He also led operational improvements in productivity, backlog reduction, and inventory reduction that enabled a $300 million manufacturing company to meet bank covenants, preventing a call on debt.
  • Operations Improvement. Geoff has led numerous operations improvement programs. Some examples include: implementing a global operations strategy that saved an orthopedic implant manufacturer $50 million per year; driving a 40% improvement in labor productivity in manufacturing in a consumer products company; and reducing purchase costs of wearable sensors by 80%.
  • Accounting and Financial Reporting.  As a full-time and consulting CFO, Geoff managed all aspects of financial, management, and tax reporting.  At Innerscope, he developed and deployed a project cost accounting system that provided accurate estimates of project cost for pricing and actual cost tracking that allowed the actual versus predicted margin to be tracked for every project.

Geoff has an AB in Applied Math and Physics from Harvard University and an MS in Management of Technology from the MIT Sloan School of Management.  He also worked as a Research Associate at Harvard Business School, writing 17 case studies and several teaching notes. Geoff currently serves as a mentor in MIT’s Venture Mentoring Service and the Treasurer of a non-profit organization.
