Scott Ellison

CFO/COO Consultant

Scott is an experienced advisor, investor, & CFO/COO/Business Development consultant focused on emerging and middle-market businesses.

During his career spanning over two decades, he has worked with a diverse group of companies from Fortune 100 enterprises to Private Equity-backed organizations to Venture-backed startups. In addition to extensive Financial work, he also brings Business Development & M&A expertise.

Scott views the functions of the CFO and COO through a growth lens and is a strong advocate for the role that processes and systems play in the long-term success of businesses of all sizes. In terms of capital and legal structures, Scott has extensive experience with the full continuum of private financing from early-stage venture to growth funding (equity & debt) to middle-market buyout transactions. Over the course of his career, he has played prominent roles in transactions with total enterprise value of >$2B.

Scott blends a deep understanding of finance and accounting with a broad experience in business development, product and pricing, and Board communications. His goal is always to be a force-multiplier for CEOs and Founders and his passion is assisting companies in maximizing their value for all stakeholders – internal and external.

Scott has invested in and advised over two dozen private companies across sectors from Construction and Real Estate to Supply Chain, Business Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Transportation. As a long-time public company investor, he has extensive experience with 3-financial statement modeling and analysis and a deep understanding of public company performance, giving a perspective that can be beneficial for private companies as they begin building out the infrastructure needed to grow.

Earlier in his career, Scott was a Principal at Spectrum Equity Investors where he sourced, diligenced, and supported a number of the firm’s top-performing investments. He also led a pioneering effort for the firm in middle-market buyouts for healthcare and insurance services. Scott began his career as a Consultant at Mercer Management (Oliver Wyman) where he was a core part of small teams advising C-level execs and Boards at Fortune 100 Telecommunications, Technology, & Healthcare enterprises on issues ranging from M&A to long-term strategy.

Scott is a licensed private pilot, global traveler (75 countries and every continent) and avid fly angler. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and 3 kids.

Scott holds a B.A. from Harvard University, where he graduated with honors and completed a senior year independent study on improving organizational effectiveness with a decorated Harvard Business School professor.
