Scott has over thirty years of c-suite experience with a focus on helping family-owned, early-stage and developing companies grow, mature, and become more institutional – without losing sight of the entrepreneurial spirit that originally made them successful.
A lawyer by training, Scott began his career as a litigator before assuming responsibility for oversight of the legal department of a large real estate, healthcare, and financial services company. During the span of his career, Scott has had personal responsibility for such key functions as human resources, client service, office administration, legal and compliance, insurance and risk management, and more. For most of the past two decades he has been part of small c-suite teams with overall responsibility for all strategic planning, new business ventures, and budgeting and financial planning.
For companies looking to position themselves for future growth, or create a monetization event, Scott can provide COO, CAO and General Counsel services. His experience includes:
- Positioning family-owned companies for future generations through a combination of strengthening leadership, formalizing procedures, leveraging technology, and where appropriate, bringing in outside capital.
- Helping early-stage companies become IPO-ready, and leading multiple successful IPO’s with direct responsibility for everything from interviewing and hiring a banker to ringing the bell on the exchange floor.
- Extensive M&A activity on both the buy-side and sell-side with transaction values ranging from a few million dollars to over $1 billion. Scott has successfully overseen the process from negotiation of the term sheet through closing – and on the buy-side, successful integration of the target into the business.
- Expertise in designing and implementing compensation, bonus, and benefit plans at all levels of the organization, to effectively and cost-efficiently incentivize and motivate the employee base and improve morale and productivity.
- Leading the organizational development function to help grow the company’s leaders of tomorrow through sophisticated leadership and skill development.
Scott received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, a Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University College of Law, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.
